Several centuries ago, the ceilings were decorated with stucco, made of stone or expensive mortar. Today, you can make a molding of the ceiling with stucco from:

  • gypsum;
  • polystyrene;
  • polyurethane.

Before buying this or that kind of stucco, you need to familiarize yourself with the merits and demerits of each of them. See not only the appearance of the stucco - analyze its properties. Study, for example, how a particular material behaves at low temperatures. Suddenly, your house will break down the heating system and a few days of the room will not be heated. You must take into account any force majeure.

Polyurethane stucco is very beautiful, because it looks like a real stone. It is light and yet strong. If you buy such stucco, it does not need to be painted - it looks very presentable.

In this case, the polyurethane is well covered with paint, ideally even layer. With polyurethane moldings it is very convenient to work. This material does not crumble and does not beat, and on it from small impacts do not go cracks. If you want to make a really nice ceiling in the apartment, select some of its elements with gold or copper paint. Then the interior will look even richer.

A great advantage of this material is its high resistance to temperature changes. He is not afraid of high humidity and severe frost, so the decorative elements of polyurethane can decorate the facade of the building. Just imagine, how much would it cost to decorate the outside of the house with expensive stone stucco molding.

Stucco from polyurethane is not afraid of rising temperatures. The material melts at +300 degrees, so these decorative elements can be mounted under the chandelier and lamps - they will not burn and melt even with prolonged use. Decorative elements made of polyurethane do not change color even with prolonged exposure to sunlight and are not afraid of moisture, so they can be washed.

Stucco molding

In the interior of both the house and the apartment looks good and the plaster molding on the ceiling. This material has many shortcomings, but there are significant advantages. Gypsum is natural, which means it is absolutely safe material. It does not emit any harmful substances, is odorless, absolutely hypoallergenic. The gypsum does not burn and does not melt, therefore the decorative elements made of it can be placed under the chandelier for many light bulbs. Still, gypsum has such an important property as hygroscopicity. If the room is too moist, it takes away excess moisture, and when the air is too dry - gives up.

Stucco molding on the ceiling looks really rich and fits into any interior. It is decorated with ceilings in the premises in the style of Provence, Art Nouveau, Baroque. Gypsum is a very plastic material, absolutely any sculptures can be made from it, including ceiling moldings. If the stores do not find anything suitable, you can make an individual order for the manufacture of exactly the stucco that fits perfectly into the interior. It's expensive, but very original.

Gypsum is a very fragile material. If during the work you drop an element, then it will be cracked or it will shatter to smithereens. Hygroscopicity is also a serious drawback.

Gypsum is a very expensive material, and the design of ceilings with stucco molding from gypsum can be very costly - not everyone has such royal decor on their pocket.

For the design of modern interiors, polystyrene or polystyrene is actively used. It is quite flexible, very light and compared with plaster and polyurethane, it is cheaper several times. Stucco from polystyrene is not afraid of temperature changes and high humidity. It is very easy to work with: it is quickly mounted, thanks to its light weight and special material structure. This material serves for a very long time. With proper use, the ceiling design with stucco molding will delight you for many years.

With
a huge number of advantages, polystyrene is flammable. This stucco is afraid of fire, so it is not located near the fixtures and under the chandelier on the ceiling. It is also much cheaper than gypsum or polyurethane, but it also looks not so presentable. It can be seen in the vicinity that the stucco is made not of expensive material, but of ordinary foam. To improve the appearance, it can be painted with paint to match the color of the ceiling or walls. Then the interior will become even more beautiful and interesting, and the ceiling will look like ceilings in palaces and rich estates.

How to fix the stucco?

It is not enough to choose an expensive stucco, you still need not make a mistake with buying a composition for which it will be attached to the ceiling. There is no need to save. It is best to buy stucco and adhesive composition of one manufacturer. If not, ask the sales staff to advise you and choose the right option.

To fix stucco molding from polystyrene and polyurethane use "liquid nails", putty or other modern glue solutions. Before you fix it, you need to align, clean and dry the walls. It is attached only to perfectly flat and absolutely clean surfaces.

For gypsum stucco we need a solution that can withstand the weight of very heavy elements. Obviously, gypsum weighs much more foam, so "liquid nails" for its attachment will not work. Before fixing the plaster molding, the surface is treated with a solution of PVA and gypsum glue. Sometimes it is attached to the dowels, but this work must be done by a minimum of two or three.

Stretch fabric is very soft, so the decorative elements need not be attached to it, but to the wall. The work is a jeweler, but if you do it carefully, the ceiling will look different.

And the stretch ceiling can be decorated with light rosettes made of foam plastic. To make it look good and hold, the socket should not occupy more than a quarter of the ceiling and exceed in diameter 80 cm.
